After the approval of the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill 2023 by both houses of parliament and the president’s signature on the bill, it is official that NITIE Mumbai is now IIM Mumbai. In this blog, you will find everything you needed to know about IIM Mumbai.

Campus Life at IIM Mumbai

NITIE Mumbai

You can compare the IIM Mumbai campus to a mini peninsula. Surrounding a pond on three sides, the inhabitants of the campus often refer to it as ‘God’s Own Campus’. Though located in one of the busiest cities in India, the 67-acre campus is safely tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city; a haven of lush greenery. This is the institute from which some of the best leaders in the industry are molded every year; especially in the fields of Supply Chain and Operations Management.

MBA Entrance exams

Life at IIM Mumbai can be generally classified into three phases. The first year, the summer internships, and the second year phases. The first few months will be spent trying to find and establish your place amongst the large crowd. Right when you get the hang of it, and finally begin to enjoy the experience to the fullest, that is when the summer internships come up. It’s back to square one again in a novel and maybe a more demanding environment. When you’re back on campus for your second year, it will be like you’re back at your own home again. You’re familiar with everything and the challenges of your first year, don’t seem to be much of a challenge anymore. Except for the final placement process that is. If you don’t fall under the tiny majority who were fortunate enough to be offered a PPO, then during the last few months, the nagging feelings of anxiety and disappointments will probably keep lurking in the back of your subconscious mind.

NITIE Mumbai LakeWhat stands out in your memories though, will be what you did external to the required curricular activities. At IIM Mumbai, the Pond is where you’ll always find someone roaming around. Being surrounded by nature, you will be transported to a perceptual world, far away from the rigorous one that you were in maybe a few minutes or hours ago. The in-house canteen will be the place where you would gather for random discussions of anything and everything.

The committee experience will be another big part of your life. During the first year, you will constantly try to prove that you deserve to be a member of the team. Once you get through to the next year though you will have a better time. Even if you were not a member of any committee, you can still benefit from the various events and activities organized by the different committees on campus. The celebrations held at NITIE (IIM Mumbai) during Holi or other festivals are on a whole other level. You will completely let yourself go during those few hours.

NITE MumbaiTo keep fit, you either make use of the sports grounds and courts or the gym. Though, you really don’t need it considering the number of steps you climb every day when you’re rushing to get to class on time. This might be unexpected, but there are occasions when classes can be quite invigorating. You come out of these sessions feeling like coming to NITIE (IIM Mumbai) was 100% worth it. Placements can be stimulating too, though these stimulations tend to move from one end of the spectrum to the next. You will worry one moment and be relieved the next. Disappointments will follow, along with hope and finally success.

To sum up, life at IIM Mumbai is an experience. You need to live it to get it, and once you do, you will never forget how you lived through it.
