XLRI Jamshedpur, also known as Xavier School of Management, is a premier business school located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. Established in 1949, XLRI is one of the oldest B-schools in India and is considered among the top management institutes in the country. Campus Life
XLRI is spread across 50 Acres in Jamshedpur, the Steel City of India in Jharkhand. The
nearest Airport is only 6 Km away and the Jamshedpur Railway Station is 10 Km from the
campus. The campus is divided into two parts the legacy old campus which gives proper retro vibes with its greenery and old administrative buildings, with a common garden called JLT which also had a pool at one point in time right in the middle of the old hostels, and the new campus is where most of the new administrative buildings are present giving it a proper state of the art new campus look. One can also see the nearby hills which along with the picturesque sky provide a proper scenic view. XLRI is beautiful in its own way with beautiful orange hues in the evening skies with the mountains that seem to reach up to the sky forming a majestic silhouette against the horizon. As the day fades into night, the stars twinkle in the dark sky and the moonlight casts a magical glow over the tranquil scene. XLRI is a different kind of universe in itself.

Just like any other B-school, the schedule is jam-packed with classes and term exams as they follow a trimester structure. The morning classes start at 9 am and till the ungodly hours of the day. Most days classes get over by noon, so there’s time for other activities. All the Extra and Co-curricular activities are driven by legacy and new committees with events and competitions being conducted in the evenings after classes or on the weekends. Every day is packed with classes, seminars, guest lectures, presentations, case studies, and group discussions. One can be seen eating out, riding a cycle, reading a case, and doing an assignment till 3 or 4 in the morning. Most students in their first-month struggle to manage their studies and assignments. XLRI is a highly competitive space as every student on the campus is one of the brightest minds in the country. Having said that, one also gets to learn a lot as people from different educational backgrounds, places, identities, cultures, etc come to study there. The XLRI culture consists of peer learning, integrity, inclusiveness, and quality education. The culture also includes no sleeping, and the academic curriculum is intensely rigorous with surprise quizzes, assignments, projects, presentations, case readings, and so on. One has to keep pushing itself beyond limits both in class as well as outside of the classroom.
The faculty at XLRI is highly respected in the industry for their quality of teaching and
research. The faculty members are well-qualified and experienced in their respective fields, and many of them have worked in leading organizations and institutions around the world. Additionally, there is a good number of visiting and guest faculties on campus. Students from every batch agree on one thing, which that is the quality of teaching is top-notch in XLRI.
Apart from the academic life, there are 8 food joints spread across the campus with Aiyer’s Cafe and Bishu da are the most prominent and the oldest ones. There’s also Dadu’s canteen which has been there for many years now. Students go to eat food and take a breather from their exhaustive schedule. The campus is equipped with all modern amenities such as a grand library, auditorium, wifis, and necessities like pharmacies, grocery shops, etc. XLRI offers an unparalleled level of freedom and opportunity to explore, learn, and grow as an individual. XLRI is known for its flagship two-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) program, which is equivalent to an MBA degree. XLRI Jamshedpur has witnessed a 100% Placement for their outgoing Batches of 2021-23 for their flagship programme in MBA(BM) and HRM. A total of 463 students got placed through their final placement process. They follow a two-step process for final placements- 1. Lateral Recruitment Process (LRP) and 2. Campus Recruitment Process (CRP). The first step process is where students who have prior experience get placed for higher than entry-level positions. The latter sees no segregation based on work experience. Leena Nair
She is the Global CEO of Chanel currently residing in London, England, UK. She is a graduate of XLRI Jamshedpur from the 1992 Batch. She did her MBA in Human Resources and was a gold medallist in her time. Some of the extra co-curricular activities she was involved in was debating. She was also a member of the marketing association and loved playing sports. Before joining XLRI to do her MBA, she did her bachelor’s in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Walchand School of Engineering Sangli. She has been featured on Business Today “Most Powerful Business Woman” list for 7 consecutive years. She has also been awarded the HR Achiever of the Year in 2009 by the World HRD Congress and received 4 awards in 2010 as “HR Professional of the Year”. In 2011, she was conferred as the “HR Champion” by Hindustan Times. Before joining Chanel as the CEO, she worked as a board trustee of the Leverhulme Trust and as a Steering Committee member at the World Economic Forum.
Bimlendra Jha
I
He is the Managing Director of Jindal Steel and Power. He did his post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management in the fields of Management and Finance from XLRI Jamshedpur in the year 1995. He did BTech in Ceramic Engineering in 1990 from IIT Varanasi(Banaras Hindu University). Before his current job, he worked as the MD and CEO of Ambuja Cement Ltd and CEO of Tata Steel(UK) from 2016 to 2019. He was one of the brightest kids on the block during his time at XLRI. He also founded his own startup called IgnitingMinds Guru in 2020.
Arun Maira
He is an Indian business leader, management consultant, and former civil servant, born in Lahore in undivided India on August 15, 1943. He served as a member of the Planning Commission of India from 2009 to 2014 and was appointed to the Rajya Sabha in June 2014. He was the Chairman of the Boston Consulting Group, in India. Earlier, he had worked with the Tata Group in India for 25 years, and for another 10 years with Arthur D Little Inc and Innovation Associates in the USA. Presently, he is Chairman of Helpage International and an Advisor to several civil society networks. He has authored several books on business and public policy. He did his masters from XLRI Jamshedpur and studied at St. Stephen’s College Delhi in 1964.
Vineet Nayar
He is the former CEO of HCL Technologies and Founder of Sampark Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving access to education and healthcare in India. He is also the author of the highly acclaimed management book “Employees First, Customers Second: Turning Conventional Management Upside Down”. He did his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from XLRI Jamshedpur in 1985. Prior to that, he did his BTech in mechanical engineering from GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology. Additionally, Vineet was recently selected by Fortune Magazine for its first-ever, worldwide “Executive Dream Team” 2012, which has been dubbed an “all-star leadership” that “could coalesce and dominate in any industry.” In addition to this, he was listed on the prestigious “Thinkers 50 List” in 2011–2012, a comprehensive selection of the top 50 business thinkers worldwide.
Prerana Issar
She is a former Chief People Officer for the NHS in England. NHS stands for the National Health Service which is the publicly funded Healthcare System in England. She did her Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources from XLRI Jamshedpur in 1997 prior to which she attended the Lady Shree Ram College in DU to do her psychology honors. She was the Chief HR Officer at the World Food Programme(WFP). WFP is a leading Humanitarian organization that delivers food assistance in emergencies. Earlier, she was also the Vice President HR, Global Foods Category, Unilever Plc.
