What is JoSAA Counselling?
JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling is the process through which seats are allocated for undergraduate engineering programs at top institutions like IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. Admission to IITs is based on JEE Advanced ranks, while seats in other participating institutions are allocated based on JEE Main ranks. Step 1: JoSAA Counselling Registration 2025
The first step is to register on the official website of JoSAA i.e. josaa.nic.in. Go to the website and complete the registration. Enter your JEE Main or Advanced roll number and password to register. Put all the details correctly like the candidate’s state code, gender, nationality, and many more things. Check all the information filled in the registration avoiding any mistakes.
Step 2: JoSAA Choice Filling

What is Freeze, Float and Sliding Options in JoSAA Counselling?
Candidates are given seats based on their JEE Main/JEE Advanced score, preferences, category, and seat availability. Once allotted a seat, candidates must download their provisional allotment letter and pay a seat acceptance fee of Rs. 35,000. After paying the JoSAA counselling fee, they need to verify their documents at the Reporting Centre (RC).
After the JoSAA seat allotment results for 2025 are announced, candidates can choose from the following options based on their preferences:
- Floating: If candidates accept the allotted seat but are still open to getting a seat in a higher preference institute or course, they should choose this option.
- Freezing: If candidates are happy with their allotted seat and do not want to be considered for further rounds, they should select this option.
- Sliding: Candidates who choose this option will confirm their seat but remain open to getting a better course in the same institute.
- Candidates should report to the allotted engineering college after completing the document verification process. You need to pay the required fee amount within the time.

JoSAA Counselling is a common counselling process organized for the allocation of seats on merit for the candidates qualifying in JEE Main or Advanced entrance tests. The seats are allocated in IITs, NITs, GFIs, and IIITs.
