The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a new NEET 2025 tie breaking criteria rules in the information brochure. If two or more candidates secure equal marks/percentile scores in the NEET (UG) 2025, the new tie-breaking criteria will resolve the tie. However, if the tie still exists, it will be resolved through a random process with the independent expert committee guidance. NEET 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria Rules Released

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has established a new tie-breaking procedure for NEET 2025 scores if the existing methods fail to resolve ties. As lakhs of students appear in NEET 2025, the chances of obtaining the same scores are high. Hence, authorities have introduced a NEET 2025 tie breaking criteria rules to ensure every medical aspirant receives a unique rank. If all tie-breaking rules are exhausted, the authority will use a random process with the independent expert committee guidance to resolve the tie.

NEET 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria Rules by NTA

If two or more aspirants secure equal scores in the NEET 2025, the inter-se-merit will be ascertained through NEET 2025 tie breaking criteria rules. The tie-breaking process has been revised for simpler ranking. Check the complete NEET 2025 new rules for tie breaking policy below:

  • Candidates securing higher marks/percentile scores in Biology (Botany & Zoology) will get preference.
  • If the tie exists, the higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry will be preferred.
  • If the tie is still unresolved, the higher marks/percentile score in Physics will be considered.
  • If there is still a tie, aspirants with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect responses and correct responses in all the subjects will get higher preference.
  • In case the tie remains, aspirants with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) will be considered.
  • If the tie still exists, the aspirant with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect responses and correct responses in Chemistry will get preference.
  • If there is still a tie, aspirants with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect responses and correct responses in Physics will be considered.
  • If all the above criteria are exhausted and the tie remains, it will be resolved by a random process with the independent expert committee guidance.

Other Changes in NEET UG 2025

Along with new NEET 2025 tie breaking criteria rules, NTA has also introduced other changes. The following changes are introduced:

  • More Exam Center Options: NEET 2025 applicants can now choose up to three cities for their exam centre, instead of two. They must choose the cities in order of their priority while filling out the form. The choice of NEET exam centre cities will be limited to the state of permanent address or state of present address only.
  • NEET Revised Exam Pattern: The NTA has revised the NEET Exam Pattern 2025. There shall be 180 questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The exam duration for NEET UG shall be 3 hours. Section B is no longer part of the NEET exam.
  • No Optional Questions: The optional questions have been removed from the NEET UG exam to simplify the format.
  • Changes in NEET Photo Requirements: Aspirants must upload scanned copies of their recent passport-size photograph taken after 01 January 2025 in the application form.
  • Extended Exam Centre Access: The NEET exam centre will be opened 3 hours before the test starts instead of the previous two hours. The NEET UG 2025 exam will be held from 02.00 pm to 05.00 pm. No test-taker can enter the exam centre after 1:30 pm.
