December 10, 2024: Major Changes in CUET UG 2025 Announced

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced several significant changes to CUET UG 2025 to enhance the exam process and improve its efficiency. Here are the important updates:

  • Subject Reduction: The number of subjects available for the exam has been reduced from 63 to 37, with 23 domain subjects and 13 languages. Subjects such as Foreign Languages (French, Spanish, German, etc.) and certain domain subjects (e.g., Entrepreneurship, Legal Studies) have been removed. For these subjects, admissions will now be based on General Aptitude Test (GAT) scores.
  • CBT Mode: The exam will now be conducted exclusively in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, which means there will be no more paper-based options. This change aims to simplify the process and reduce logistical issues.
  • Subject Flexibility: Students can now choose up to five subjects (instead of six) for the CUET UG 2025 exam. Furthermore, students can select subjects even if they were not part of their Class 12 curriculum. This change is meant to allow more flexibility and give students the opportunity to explore different subjects.
  • Uniform Exam Duration: All exams will now have a standard duration of 60 minutes per subject. The previous variation in exam durations has been removed.
  • Compulsory Questions: There will be no optional questions in the exam. All questions will be compulsory, which means candidates must attempt every question in the paper.

These changes, recommended by an expert committee formed by the UGC, aim to improve the exam’s fairness, efficiency, and transparency, making the process easier for both students and institutions.
