The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts the national level counseling for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. Admission to the IITs will be based on the JEE Advanced 2025 ranks, while allotments for NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs will be determined by JEE Main 2025 ranks. JoSAA 2025 registration is expected to begin on June 3, the day after the JEE Advanced 2025 results are declared.
JoSAA 2025 application form and choice filling will be available online on the official website in June 2025. The counseling process will include five main rounds: JoSAA seat allotment, candidate seat confirmation, online reporting at the allotted institute, and fee payment. Last year, the total number of available seats across institutes was 59,937.

What is JoSAA Counselling?
The JoSAA counseling process manages the allocation of seats for undergraduate engineering programs across renowned institutions like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and others. Admission to IITs is based on JEE Advanced ranks, while JEE Main ranks determine the seat allocation for other participating institutions.
The Ministry of Education established the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to oversee the seat allocation for 121 institutes, including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 40 Other GFTI. Eligible candidates must register on the official JoSAA online portal to participate in the counseling process and secure a seat at one of these institutes.

JoSAA Seat Allotment 2025 – Eligibility Criteria

JoSAA Eligibility for IT Admission 2025
- Candidates must qualify in JEE Advanced 2025 for IIT academic programs:
- Class XII Performance criteria:
- Year of passing: Candidates should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) exam for the first time in 2024 or 2025.
- Compulsory subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- Additional Criteria:
- Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in class XII (or equivalent). SC, ST, and PwD candidates must have at least 65%.
- Must be in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII Board examination.
JoSAA Eligibility for NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTI Admissions:
- JEE Main Rank: Candidates must have secured a rank in JEE Main 2025 Paper 1 for BTech programs or JEE Main 2025 Paper 2 for BArch and BPlan programs.
- Class XII Performance Criteria:
- Year of Passing: Candidates should have appeared for Class XII (or equivalent) for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025.
- Subject Combination for BTech: Physics, Mathematics, and one of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational subject language or any subject not included above ( highest marks in one subject will be considered).
- Subject Combination for BArch: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or two other subjects( highest marks in one subject will be considered).
- Subject Combination for BPlan: Mathematics and four other subjects (highest marks in one subject will be considered).

JoSAA 2025 Counselling Process

Step 1: Get Registered | Log in to JoSAA portal using JEE Main 2025 details (application number, name, mother’s name, DOB) and confirm personal details. |
Step 2: Filling of Choices | Fill in choices of branches and colleges in order of preference based on eligibility and available options. Arrange them using “Arrange Filled Choices.” |
Step 3: Locking of Choices | Lock the choices and take a printout for reference. |
Step 4: Seat Allocation | Seat allocation based on rank, preferences, and seat availability. Choose Freeze, Float, or Slide based on satisfaction. |
Step 5: Payment of Seat Acceptance Fee | Pay the seat acceptance fee online. Failure to pay will result in ineligibility for subsequent rounds. |
Step 6: Document Verification | Verify documents online as per the schedule. Only verified students can proceed to final admission. |
Step 7: Reporting at Institute | Report to the allotted institute to deposit remaining fees and complete admission formalities. |
JoSAA Seat Allotment 2025: Application Form
To register for JoSAA 2025 counselling, candidates must follow these steps:
Step 1: New Candidate Registration
- Click the registration link and authenticate using the JEE Main 2025 application number, candidate name, mother’s name, and DOB.
- Verification by OTP was sent to the registered mobile number and email.
- Check the displayed details and also create a password for the JoSAA portal.
Step 2: JoSAA Candidate Login
- Log in to the JoSAA portal using the JEE Main 2025 application number, created password, and OTP.
- Verify and also confirm all the details.
After completion of these steps, candidates can also proceed to choice filling.
JoSAA 2025 Choice Filling
Registered candidates can proceed to the JoSAA 2025 choice-filling process after verifying the OTP sent to their registered mobile number and email. The available choices for institutes and programs will be displayed, and candidates should select and prioritize options based on their preferences.
Candidates can:
- Rearrange, interchange, or delete choices.
- Edit choices as many times as desired before the deadline.
Choice Locking: After the finalization of their preferences, candidates must lock their choices. Once locked, changes can no longer be made. The system will automatically lock the choices if not locked by the deadline.
Printing Locked Choices: Candidates can download a letter that contains their locked choices once finalized.
JoSAA 2025 Seat Allotment
JoSAA will announce the seat allotment results on the candidate’s JoSAA portal. Candidates can log in using their JEE Main 2025 application number and JoSAA password to view their allotment. Seats are allocated based on JEE Main/ Advanced ranks, categories, and choices filled.
Candidates must download the “Initial Seat Allotment Intimation Slip” for seat details if allotted a seat. If the candidate’s responsibility to check the portal for seat allocation, as no separate notification will be provided.
JoSAA 2025 Seat Allotment Confirmation- Freeze, Slide or Float

Important Notes:
- Float and Slide: Available only if the first choice isn’t allocated.
- Last Round: Float and Slide options are not available in the final round
- Changes: Candidates can switch between float, slide, and freeze during all rounds except the last round.
- Freeze: Once selected, the freeze option cannot be changed in later rounds.

JoSAA Seat Allotment 2025
All candidates who qualify the JEE Advanced 2025 exam and have a JEE Main rank must register for JoSAA counselling to secure admission to their preferred UG engineering courses at IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs.
The total number of seats for JEE Main 2025 varies across institutions. In 2024, approximately 1.2 million candidates registered, with 40,000+ seats available in NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and other participating institutes, including IITs for JEE Advanced.
The JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling for 2025 will begin on June 3, 2025, which is the day following the announcement of JEE Advanced 2025 results.
Candidates must meet at least one of the following two conditions: They must have passed and obtained a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination.
To be eligible for JEE 2025, candidates must have passed or be appearing for the Class 12 exam in 2023, 2024, or 2025. There is no age limit for appearing in the JEE Main exam.
