Passage 1
The Indian Army will hold its Army Day parade at the 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre in Lucknow, the headquarters of the Army’s Central Command. The Army Day is an occasion to honour the valour and sacrifices of the soldiers and showcase the Army’s capabilities and achievements. It is celebrated by holding parades and showcasing the Army’s arsenal.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other dignitaries will attend the Army Day parade and the Shaurya Sandhya display at the 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre in Lucknow Rajnath Singh and other civil and military dignitaries will attend the event. The parade, will feature marching contingents from various regiments of the Army, such as the Garhwal Rifles, Jat Regiment, Sikh Light Infantry, Bengal Engineer Group and Parachute Regiment. The parade will also include a contingent from the Corps of Army Air Defence.
Passage 2
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on January 15 release funding for pucca homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) beneficiary families. A statement from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs said that Mr. Modi would release the first instalment via video conferencing at noon, following which he was set to interact with the PVTG beneficiaries of the package.
Further, the government has sanctioned the building of 1,207 km out of the targeted 8,000 km of roads in PVTG habitations; approved schemes to connect all left out PVTG households to the PM Jal Jeevan Mission; and sanctioned 916 anganwadi centres, 816 of which are expected to be operational by the end of this month. The Act has introduced several vital changes, though not without the contested provisions for safety standards and public emergencies which give the government unfettered power that can infringe on citizen privacy with little or no accountability for governing officers.
