How To Manage Executive MBA With a Full Time Job?
- Vimran Singh (Executive MBA Student at SIBM Pune)
Pursuing Executive MBA while working? Here are simple tips to manage balance between work and life. But first let’s understand if it is possible doing an EMBA when you are in a full-time job.
Yes! It is possible, and difficult at the same time. But EMBA students acquire time management skills to help them balance their job and study. Many students have extra obligations, such as families and work. Despite the difficulties, an EMBA program is a viable option for students who do not want to take two years off from work and disrupt their career path.
An MBA program includes a comprehensive curriculum, as well as several chances outside the classroom, such as case competitions, job placements, pro bono consulting assignments, and engagement in MBA clubs.
While an MBA is a really rewarding experience, it can be a challenging one. As an MBA student at the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, I know that successfully managing my time allows me to make the most of my experience.
A healthy work/life balance allows us to decrease stress and maintain our health. It allows me to be present in my schoolwork and personal life while still staying on top of my connections. Even with our conveniences, we understand that balancing your professional work while pursuing your professional degree can be difficult. With that in mind, here are some work-life balance guidelines I feel will keep you on track for success.

1. Create a Study Area
Living with other people (particularly children!) may be a significant difficulty when it comes to doing academic work at home, regardless of how big or small your family is. Even if you live alone, designating a study space is an excellent method to physically and psychologically isolate your studies from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
2. Establish Your Priorities
Taking up a weekend EMBA program while working full-time requires prioritising certain activities and determining what is most essential to you. Making the option to add more to your schedule will not be simple. As a result, you must prioritise your to-do list to determine what is most important and must be done first.
3. Make a Schedule
It should go without saying that a well-planned calendar is essential for anybody who is struggling with time management. If you have fixed professional work hours, you should put them on the schedule first. Then you must choose how much time you can commit to learning as well as several personal and family activities.
Make a work-study schedule
- Make an effort to establish your Executive MBA schedule
- Plan your full-week sessions in advance.
- Consider when you’ll study and when you’ll work.
- Set up specified hours on your calendar to improve efficiency and use for leftover study or job.
Schedule Exercise and Sleep
Exercise and sleep are two of the most difficult daily activities to incorporate into your schedule, but they are also two of the most important. Regular workouts have been demonstrated in studies to enhance not just energy levels, mood, and overall health, but also memory.
4. Garner Support from Your Family
In addition to a full-time career, pursuing an EMBA demands time away from your family. Your family members should be informed of your schedule and dedication to the program well in advance.
If you decide to return to college, you will need to realign your family responsibilities. The objective is to get your family on board with this choice so that the program may be as effective as possible.
5. Make Time for Yourself
Speaking of breaks, spending some time for yourself is another way to balance work and life. After you’ve accomplished your daily responsibilities, take some time to rest and unwind.
Rewarding yourself will allow you to conclude the day on a positive note and recover for the next day. Make the most of any free time you have by doing something you like. This will make you happier and give you the motivation you need to keep going. You’re used to balancing your work schedule and managing your time throughout the day as a corporate professional. However, doing so while concurrently pursuing your EMBA increases your responsibilities.
Keep in mind that an EMBA program is usually designed to take as little time away from the student’s job life as possible, generally by arranging classes on weekends. Most people would rather spend that time with their families. Losing that time may be a short-term inconvenience, but it will almost likely result in long-term benefits: financially, professionally, and even personally. Ensuring that the entire family unit is on board with the two-year journey to success can help to mitigate the problems given by long hours, weekends spent in class and even overseas travel modules that take the student away from home for weeks at a time.
