About:

Established in 1974, the Institute has since then built on its base of highly accomplished faculty, world-class infrastructure and motivated student body to emerge as one of the premier institutes for management education and research, promoting managerial excellence in the country. IIMB strives to achieve excellence through partnerships with industry, and leading academic institutions, the world over. IIMB’s mission is to ‘build leaders through holistic, transformative and innovative education’.

The school works within the national policy guidelines established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It is amongst the top management schools in India and Asia according to several rankings. In 2013, IIMB was re-accredited by European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).

Story behind the logo:

IIMB has a strong brand identity with a logo that has great recall. The sun symbol has been designed by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and has been in use since 1994.

The concept of the current logo is based on a line from the Sanskrit shloka which has become the motto of IIMB: Tejasvi navadhitamastu. This line, derived from the peace invocation of several Upanishads, translates as: “Let our (the teacher and the taught) learning be radiant”.

Programmes Offered:

The long-duration post graduate programmes of the Institute comprise the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), the Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM); the one year full-time Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), the Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM) and the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP).

IIMB has also been ranked among the Top 20 Business Schools in the world on the Financial Times’ prestigious Master in Management Rankings for 2016.For the eighth consecutive year, in 2016, IIMB has been ranked the best business school in Central Asia by Eduniversal, Paris.IIM Bangalore has recently topped the list of best management institutes in the ‘India Ranking 2016’ – the first-ever national ranking of universities by the Government. The ‘India Ranking 2016’, prepared by MHRD’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), rated IIM Bangalore as the ‘Best Management Institute’ in India. All 122 centrally funded institutions, including central universities, IITS and IIMs, participated in the ranking. The survey listed top 10 universities, and engineering, management and pharmaceutical institutes of the country.

Selection Criteria (PGP/PGDM):

IIMB adopts a two-phase selection process and accordingly these selection criteria are applied in two phases. The first phase processes applied to all eligible candidates who appear for CAT to determine those qualifying candidates who will be called for personal interview (PI).

During the PI process the candidates selected for interviewing during a particular half-day (morning or afternoon) session will have to take a Written Ability Test (WAT) on a topic provided by IIMB. The topics chosen will typically reflect current socio-political, economic and business affairs, though other topics such as sports and those that require more creative thinking may also be included. The time provided for the WAT will typically be about 30 minutes. During the interview, the panel will evaluate each candidate’s performance on academic background, quality of work experience and other personal traits. The WAT submission will be evaluated separately. Scores of both, WAT and interview, along with those of the pre-PI selection parameters (with the appropriate weightages) will be used cumulatively in the second and final phase of selection to identify the candidates who will merit selection from among those candidates who appear for the PI.
