Criteria A2: Age Limit
Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2000. Five years of age relaxation is given to the SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e. these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1995.
Criteria A3: Number of Attempts
Candidates are allowed a maximum of three attempts for JEE Advanced, with these attempts being restricted to three consecutive years.
Criteria A4: Appearance in Class XII (or Equivalent) Examination
To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2025, candidates should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2023, 2024, and 2025, with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates who appeared for their Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2022 or earlier are not allowed, regardless of the combination or number of subjects taken.
The term “appearance” refers to the official declaration of results by the respective examination board for the year, even if the examination was not conducted or the candidate’s result was withheld.
However, if the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2022-23 on or after June 28, 2023, then the candidates of the Board who appeared for their class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2023 are also eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025, provided they meet all the other eligibility criteria. In case the examination board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2022-23 before June 28, 2023, but the result of the particular candidate was withheld for whatever reason, then the candidate will not be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025.
Exception to Criterion A3 and A4
The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has passed a direction in Writ Petition No. 854/2024 and 17/2025 on 10.01.2025 for the permission of those candidates who have withdrawn from their courses and dropped out between 5.11.2024 to 18.11.2024, to register for JEE (Advanced) 2025. Prospective students who thus become eligible for JEE Advanced 2025 are requested to see Annexure VI of the Information Brochure for more details.

Criterion A5- Earlier admission at IITs
A candidate should NOT have been admitted to an IIT under any academic program which is listed in JoSAA Business Rules of 2024, irrespective of whether or not the candidate continued in the program OR accepted a seat in IIT by reporting “online”/ at a “reporting center” in the past. Candidates whose admission to IITs was canceled after joining any IIT are NOT eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.
Candidates who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in 2024 can also appear in JEE Advanced 2025.
The candidates who were allocated a seat in IIT through JoSAA 2024 but (i) did not report “online”/ at any “reporting center” OR, (ii) withdrew before the last round of seat allotment, OR, (iii) had their seat canceled before the last round of the seat allotment for IITs are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.
However, in all of the above cases, the candidate is also required to fulfill the conditions which are mentioned from Criterion A1 to Criterion A4.
