JEE Advanced Exam Pattern 2025
IIT JEE 2025 exam pattern involves two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. It is compulsory for candidates to appear in both papers. The first paper will be held in the morning and the second in the afternoon. Candidates can appear for the exam either in English or Hindi. The language can be changed to the preferred language during the exam. The questions in each paper are framed to test the candidates analytical, reasoning and comprehension skills.

IIT JEE Exam Duration and Mode
JEE Advanced Paper 1 and Paper 2 is conducted over six hours. The course duration of each paper is three years. The exam will be held online and is a computer-based test (CBT). In case of PwD candidates, candidates will be provided an extra hour in each paper.

JEE Advanced 2025 will be divided into three subjects in each paper. The subjects are Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Also, under each subject there will be four sections where a particular number of questions will be asked with different marking schemes for each section.

IIT JEE Exam Pattern Analysis
Candidates can have a look at the previous year JEE Advanced exam pattern analysis to get an idea of the type and number of questions that will be asked in the coming year. As mentioned above, under each subject there are four sections for both Paper 1 and 2.
- In section 1, the JEE Advanced question paper has four multiple choice questions are asked, where candidates need to choose one answer for each question.
- In section II, three statement based questions are asked with one or more than one correct answers.
- In section III, six questions are asked where candidates are not provided with any options. They need to type the answer, which is usually a numerical value in the designated space.
- In section IV, four questions are asked where candidates need to match the entries of List I with those given in List II in Paper 1
- In Paper 2, under section IV, students are provided with two paragraphs and based on each paragraph, two questions are asked. Students need to put the value in the blank space provided.

Detailed JEE Advanced 2025 Marking Scheme
Candidates must note that the JEE Advanced marking scheme will be the same for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. However, the marks allotted to each section of the subjects will be different. Here is the detailed marking scheme for each section of the exam paper:

Negative Marking in JEE Advanced
There is a negative marking scheme in the JEE Advanced Exam Pattern. There is no negative marking in Section III of both papers and section IV in paper 2. Candidates will be deducted 1 mark in case of wrong answer for Section I and Section II. However, in Section II, -2 will be deducted for every incorrect answer marked. Understanding JEE Advanced Question Types
JEE Advanced Exam Pattern in terms of types of questions asked includes –
- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Statement-based Questions
- Numerical Answer Type Questions
- Match the Following Questions
In Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), students have to select one answer from the given options. Such a question is usually asked in Section I of each subject for both the papers. Statement-based Questions are those questions where students have to select one or more answers from the statements provided. Such questions are asked in Section II of the JEE Advanced Paper. Numerical Answer Type Questions are those questions where students need to write a non-integer value against each question. There are no options provided. These questions are asked in Section III of the papers. Lastly, in Section IV Match the Following Questions are asked. These questions include two lists where candidates have to match the points given in one list with the second list. The combinations are provided from where candidates have to choose the right answer.
