Life At XLRI Jamshedpur

XLRI never sleeps; nothing can be more accurate than this. I have been at the XLRI Campus for over a month, and my life at XLRI Jamshedpur has been bewildering. I am just amazed. I arrived at Jamshedpur on the 9th of June and moved into the Father McGrath Residence on the 14th of June. The next day, we had to attend the Famous “Tata Auditorium” for our induction and simultaneous Orientation. Entering the XLRI Jamshedpur Tata Auditorium and seeing magnum size gave me goosebumps. I had never expected to walk down the stairs my Heroes have, but here I was, exactly filling the shoes in.

Starting with the campus life at XLRI Jamshedpur, the Orientation was a week-long affair where we were made to do Non-Academical Activities. We had sessions on the “art of living” and various other interactive sessions. We were introduced to the academic program of XLRI Jamshedpur and were given a gist of our academic calendar. Later we met our Seniors and had a fun interactive session with them; our seniors gave us a head start on what would come in next with us starting our life at XLRI Jamshedpur.

XLRI doesn’t sleep, and yes, we are always awake. You can walk down your XLRI Hostel room at 3:30 AM in the morning and feel that it is 10 PM, some shops would be open, and you can go there to eat, gossip, or even rest. In XLRI, we are not allowed to use Combustion Vehicles; instead, we all use cycles to travel. Thus, I often go out early in the morning to cycle. The campus is vast, so that cycling can be an excellent leisure activity on campus. This promotes a very healthy life at XLRI Jamshedpur.

As I mentioned, we often have tasks requiring a lot of time commitment at XLRI Jamshedpur. Many of us see ourselves awake throughout the night and only going to bed once the sun has risen. Sometimes we have to attend classes with just an hour of sleep. The facilities at XLRI Jamshedpur are outstanding and are a complete turnaround from what we get in Undergraduate colleges. There are no Curfew timings, The mess food is good, and The Campus has all the necessities (from Pharmacy to Eateries to Grocery stores, etc.).

The Professors at XLRI Jamshedpur are generally the best in the country (especially for HR and Industry Relations). One can easily see why XLRI is called “The BEST HR BSCHOOL IN ASIA,” My opinion regarding many Human Resource topics has changed, and I have witnessed a widened viewpoint where I have learned a lot till now in my life at XLRI Jamshedpur. Though I would suggest the XLRI aspirants not to expect easy subjects or curriculum because it is not easy- one needs to put in a constant effort both in class and after class to perform well.

There are 400 students in my batch at XLRI, so there are many different types of people- from other regions, religions, beliefs, identities, attitudes, personalities, etc. I have learned a lot from them in the month I have spent here; the only thing we all have in common is that we are chosen to be the best among a vast pool of candidates by XLRI. One can easily see why XLRI sees us as the best; I had a chance to interact with the brightest minds, and let me tell you, they can teach you a lot, and one should always be ready to learn. I have been able to be friends with some of them and interact with almost all of my peers. One great thing I have noticed in the campus life at XLRI Jamshedpur is how open my peers at XLRI are to accepting you as a person, which is uncommon elsewhere.

Jamshedpur is my Hometown, and hence I know the industrial city well, but some of my peers did find it challenging to adjust to this place. XLRI is a different world inside Jamshedpur, but we visit the Steel City ones in a while. The Skyline gets Orange at night because Tata Steel and Jamshedpur look beautiful in the bright orange color.
