1. Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management – SJMSOM (IIT Bombay)

Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) at IIT Bombay is the best institute when it comes to MBA from an IIT. Do not get confused that their curriculum is focused towards technology as they provide specialisation in all fields including Finance, Operations, to name a few. Its location in Mumbai, a major financial and business hub, provides students with best of the exposure to top companies and other career opportunities to its students. The final cutoff at IIT Bombay goes as high as 98.5+ percentile, making it one of the difficult institutes in India to get in. Also note that only engineers are eligible for this MBA program.

2. The Department of Management Studies DMS (IIT Delhi)

The Department of Management Studies (DMS) at IIT Delhi offers an MBA program that focuses in the areas of IT and Operations Management and Finance, among other areas. With much lower fees compared to other peer colleges, it is one of its kind and best in the league when it comes to MBA from IITs. The small batch size of just 118 students is just cherry on the cake. Further, it has two MBA programs, one is regular and other is focused on Telecommunication Systems Management. With its prime location, IIT Delhi is even comparable to old IITs when it comes to placements and academic rigour. The cutoff usually hovers around upwards of 98 percentile for general category students.

3. VGSOM (IIT Kharagpur)

Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM) at IIT Kharagpur is one of the oldest management schools within the IIT ecosystem. IIT Kgp program offers various specializations, including Marketing, Finance, and Human Resource Management. VGSOM is also known for its global tie-ups and exchange programs, adding another dimension to its very esteemed curriculum. IIT Kgp offers two MBA programs, one general and other one specialised in Human Resources. The cutoff collectively stays around 95 percentile for general candidates. Also, it is the only IIT which is know for HR, however do note that only 4-year degree holders can apply for the program. It is also one of the colleges with best ROIs as the fee is just about 9 lacs for the entire 2 years.

Earlier IIT Kanpur only used to admit engineers but with the growing industry and the goal of focused academic diversity, it has opened its door to all the non-engineers as well. The placements are an easy bet due to their small batch size of just ~80 students. The cutoff at IIT Kanpur is around 93 percentile for general candidates but varies across years.

With increased popularity and growing demand towards MBA, it is all set to break records. The placements are a bit skewed towards technical side of the businesses but due to its low batch size of 84 and relatively lower fee of 8.5 lacs, it is often regarded as a good option as you get the IIT tag. They accept applications from both engineers as well as non-engineers and is well-known when it comes to MBA from IITs.

Its relatively low fees of around 3 lacs for 2 years and seemingly decent placement record make it a decent choice for the students. The cutoffs are quite low, hovering around 80 percentile due to its not so recognised program yet.

Due to its low batch size of 80 students, everyone gets a fair chance to boost their career trajectories.

Despite its relatively low fees, the program offers decent placement opportunities, making it a value-for-money option for MBA aspirants.
